There are many ways to check your EECS email, including webmail, text-based at a terminal, and, of course, IMAP based (Thunderbird, Outlook, Gmail, etc).

IMAP

Use the following settings to configure your IMAP-based mail client, such as Thunderbird, Outlook, and Gmail.

INCOMING
Protocol: IMAP
Server: mail.eecs.northwestern.edu
Enable TLS/STARTSSL

OUTGOING
Server: mail.eecs.northwestern.edu
Enable TLS/STARTSSL

Also see the MS Outlook specific configuration HOWTO page.

Webmail

The department’s basic webmail server is accessible here (N.B., you may need to accept the SSL certificate before you can use the site):

https://webmail.eecs.northwestern.edu/

Text terminal

Using SSH, log into host login.eecs.northwestern.edu and then use either mutt (website), or pine (website).

Mail Forwarding

Forwarding your EECS email to another account is easy. Log into login.eecs.northwestern.edu with SSH and put your forwarding address into the .forward file. For example, here’s how you can forward your mail to pred@example.com without using an editor:

echo 'pred@example.com' > ~/.forward
